Fillings (Composites and Amalgams)

Dental Amalgams

Dental amalgam (often called ‘silver fillings’) is an inexpensive and highly durable material commonly used for filling teeth, especially those that are subject to a lot of wear and tear such as molars.

Modern dental amalgam is a metal alloy that is generally made up of mercury, silver and tin, with small amounts of copper and zinc. It is pliable when first mixed and can be moulded into a tooth cavity, reducing the amount of natural tooth that needs to be removed in order to fit the filling.

Composites (Tooth Color Filling)

Is also a simple and easy way to correct many problems. also known as composite or tooth bonding, this is an excellent way of fix cosmetic and structural imperfections in the teeth. Dental bonding can repair cracked, chipped and discolored teeth, as well as replace silver amalgam fillings. Cosmetic bonding can also repair misaligned teeth, providing a straighter, more uniform smile. Tooth bonding is actually the simple matter of placing a nano-thin plastic adhesive coating on your teeth's surface which is then covered with a bonding material. The bonding material will be sculpted and shaped to fit your natural teeth and makes the bonding look more natural and attractive. The plastic hardens and as a result, the surface of your teeth is then hardened using a high-intensity light before the final polishing. Contours can be re-established, translucency and texture reproduced to mirror the adjacent teeth.
